I apologize for this bit of a rambling post! There is no real point to it. But I started it so...I finished it. haha
I threw in a couple of cute pictures for good measure...
My boy's 1st birthday is QUICKLY approaching and I can't figure out what to do about it!
I see so many big birthday celebrations around the Blogosphere. Amazing creativity and an overload of cuteness! But... that's just not my/our style really. Plus, my mom has already left for another summer in Yellowstone, my Dad & youngest brother are in San Francisco, and we don't have many friends with kids that we hang out with.
So that would leave the 3 of us, my MIL, my BF's brother, maybe my brother and his girlfriend in LA, maybe a few of our (childless) friends...?
Just doesn't seem the right combination of people for a big shindig.
(And I know my Mom would be SO SAD to miss something significant.)
That leaves a few options... We could do something new/local just the 3 of us. Options would be Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, one of the museums in Balboa Park, Legoland, even Disneyland. I feel like the Zoo or museum are probably most reasonable. It just seems kind of crazy to me to spend the money for Lego/Disneyland at this age. Even though we'd have tons of pictures, the little guy wouldn't remember or appreciate it.
I'm leaning toward a local family outing and maybe a small BBQ with a few of the people mentioned above. I've been collecting some ideas on Pinterest, but when I look at it, I feel like it's getting too...big? Detailed? Much?? I just don't know.
To be honest, though...
at this point, I've vacillated on it too long, and really left it too late and will probably just wing it!
(The below pic is what happens when you fight naps.
You start laying your head down on the carpet, mid-crawl! haha)

There are too many ideas in blogland/Pinterest but you gotta do what works for you. The first birthday is a big day but they don't really get it until they are older. For me I decided to throw a party with a theme because I love to throw a party no matter what kind, but I have lots of friends who never had first birthday parties that included people outside of immediate family. Do what feels right to you, personally I think the zoo & small BBQ sounds like a great plan. Isn't it crazy how fast they grow! Yikes!
Our family is spread out so far, so we just kept our little guy's 1st birthday simple and just the 3 of us. We went to the new aquarium that opened at our Mills Mall. Sam loved it since there was so much too look at. Next year we'll probably throw a party, when he can also interact more.
Zoo is good and Sea World too. You have a lot to choose from!
